An ecstatic, lucid dream and a mirror of today’s zeitgeist: a posthuman tragedy about oracles and shadows, children and robots, AIs and voices; for a few, a spectacle; for most, reality. Will the future survive?

The hunt for the future is on! Find it, capture it, kill it!
This 90-minute play presents the immemorial battlefield between the most ancient gods and an emerging artificial intelligence – both past and future; a final and first (digital) amphitheater in which our mortal bodies find themselves in an eternal search for their place in the world – and wage their political battles for domination and subjugation. Fronte Vacuo weaves almost imperceptible current political references into this: climate activism and the police state, fascist rhetoric and class struggle.
TRAGEDIA is Fronte Vacuo fifth production as part of their residency at the Volkstheater Wien. TRAGEDIA reflects on tragedy as a theatrical form that has shaped the identity of the global north: witnessing the suffering of a failed hero brings catharsis to the audience. Is this why Western culture is incapable of creating a future without exploitation?
